Apple Cake Recipe Ingredients

This whole wheat Apple Oat cake is the easiest and the most delectable cake recipe you’ll ever be able to find- you really need to trust me with this. it shouldn’t require much besides a few homely ingredients, a bowl, and a spatula. This easy apple oats cake recipe calls for basic ingredients:

  • Apples, of course! They fill this cake with refreshing flavour, and they make it nice and moist.
  • Whole Wheat Flour which is readily available to us. It is also the healthier flour choice, since it is processed less. The whole wheat flour also adds a depth of flavour in our Apple oats cake. This cake is all about the apples, so you don’t need much flour – just ¼ cup.
  • Oats – This is one another healthy addition to this cake batter as they give a better structure and look to the cake plus add a great source of protein!
  • Oil – For moisture and richness. I used sunflower oil here, and it worked perfectly, but a neutral-flavoured oil like canola would be great too. You can also use olive oil for this recipe.
  • Cinnamon – It adds warm & spiced flavour to this fresh apple cake.
  • Sweet Condensed Milk – It gives the cake an extra-rich, molasses-y flavour and sweetness.
  • Walnuts – For crunch! You’ll stir some into the cake batter and sprinkle more on top. However, you can replace walnuts with almonds and cranberries with raisins. You can also omit these altogether if that is what floats your boat.
  • Vanilla Essence – adds more flavour and a pleasant aroma.
  • Baking powder and baking soda – For lift.

Tips for the Best apple Oat Cake Recipe

Now, making this Apple Oat cake is super-duper easy. However, there are some tips everyone can benefit from. You can find them below.

  • Mixing the ingredients Properly

Your cake batter needs to be uniform, but more than that- the ingredients need to mix to give birth to a delicious cake. Now, there are endless Apple oats cake recipes on the internet and they have different ways to go about. For best results, Whisk Dry and Wet ingredients separately. Use a whisk or rubber spatula to rule out lumps.

  • Resist the Over-mixing

When you mix the wet and dry ingredients together, gluten starts to develop. And the more you mix the batter, the more the gluten continues to develop. So, what happens? The result of overworked batter is hard and flatten cake instead of the light and fluffy one.

Mix the batter just until the wet and dry ingredients are combined, and there are no more visible wisps of flour. The batter for this cake will likely be thick and that’s okay.

  • Use Good Apples

You want sweet and firm apple here that will hold their shape in this cake. I used Gala apples, and they were excellent here.

You’ll need to peel the apple (because sometimes apple skin contains wax coating which is very harmful) then chop into roughly ½ -inch squares – discarding the core.

You can use grated apple also in this recipe.

Add 2 tbsp Whole wheat flour into the apple chunks and mix well so it will give a light coating of flour to the apple chunks. This step is very important before adding into your cake batters. This step prevents to stop apple from sinking to the bottom of cake tin.
  • Spread the apples evenly in the pan

To make sure that you get plenty of apples in every slice of this cake, use a spatula to evenly spread the apples in the pan after you pour in the batter.

  • Let the cake cool before slicing and serving

As with all baking recipes, it’s tempting to devour this delicious cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. However, if you allow it to cool, it’ll have a moister, more cohesive texture and stronger spiced apple flavour. Let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then, remove it from the pan and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

This Apple Oats Cake is incredibly easy to make. You only need a bowl and spatula – no need for an electric mixer.

Pro Tip – The recipe is very easy to follow but it is important to keep in mind to NOT over-mix while you are combining the wet and dry ingredients. While combining wet and dry ingredients, mix only until well combined.

Serving Suggestions

I’m always happy eating a slice of this apple oats cake plain, with or without a cup of coffee or tea to go with it. However, if you’re craving something a little more decadent, don’t hesitate to dress it up! It’d also be fantastic with a dollop of vanilla whipped cream or orange chocolate ganache , a scoop of ice cream, or a dusting of sugar.

Apple Oat Cake Recipe Variations

Trust me, you’re going to love this fresh apple oat cake recipe as written, but if you don’t have the cake tin, or if you’re craving another fruit, don’t worry! Here are a few ways you can change it up:

Use pears or peaches – Replace the apples with chopped peeled pears / peaches, and use almonds instead of walnuts. This cake softens quickly, so eat it within a day.

Make a square cake if you don’t have round cake tin – This recipe needs 7-inches round cake tin but you can replace it with square also. The baking time is the same for both tin shapes – 25-30 minutes.

Make a loaf cake. Another pan option for you all! If you choose to make a loaf cake, the baking time will be longer, 35-40 minutes.

Let me know what variations you try!
